The Christmas Radiance show is a chance to showcase the variety and wonder of the artists we show.

Joyous, ebullient paintings by Julian Bailey from gorgeous oils to fresh works on paper hang alongside Martyn Brewster’s abstract symphonies of colour in oil and acrylic as well as original prints.

Find gems such as Vanessa Gardiner’s dynamic little works on card, and the magnificent paintings they led on to, or Howard Phipp’s exquisite wood engravings of Dorset’s best-loved places. Nick Jones’ silkscreen prints express a sense of place through colour. Laura Boswell’s linocuts of landscape are informed by her study of Japanese woodblock printing. While Merlyn Chesterman learned woodcut printmaking in China allowing her to express an exceptional sense of the patterns in nature.

Michael Fairclough’s luminous, lovely aquatint prints of sea and sky inspire a sense of optimism. Alfred Stockham’s paintings draw attention to the paint itself while the poetry of his compositions works its magic.

We introduce two exciting ceramic artists new to Sladers Yard. Björk Haraldsdóttir drapes monotone patterns over deeply satisfying forms to create ever more subtle and interesting pieces. The patterns in Barbara Gittings’ porcelain pots are built up using Nerikomi techniques which involve joining, slicing and rejoining layers of coloured clay. We look forward to a group of new works from each of them.

Yo Thom’s sgraffito techniques on an indigo slip partially covered with white glaze creates work of fascination and delight. Gabriele Koch makes masterful ceramics whose interesting surfaces contain their deep sense of stillness and presence.

Recent works by Petter Southall include lampstands, folding seats, dining tables, coffee and console tables. Each one is a wonder of craftsmanship and design.
